Introduction
Two deli-style pasta salads sold at Kroger stores across 24 states, including Utah, have been recalled over possible listeria contamination. The products affected are the Basil Pesto Bowtie Salad and the Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salad, both popular items from the deli section.
The recall was initiated after Kroger’s supplier, Fresh Creative Foods, confirmed that pasta ingredients sourced from Nate’s Fine Foods in California may have been exposed to listeria. While no confirmed illnesses have been reported yet, food safety officials warn that the bacteria can cause serious health issues.

Why This Recall Matters for Food Safety
Listeria infection can trigger fever, headache, confusion, and flu-like symptoms. Vulnerable groups such as pregnant women and older adults face higher risks. That’s why Kroger moved quickly to remove these items from all shelves and issued customer alerts through email and receipt notifications.
What You Should Do If You Bought These Salads
If you purchased either of the recalled pasta salads, don’t eat them. Instead, return them to your nearest Kroger family store, including Smith’s, Fred Meyer, or Food 4 Less, for a full refund or replacement. Keeping track of recalls like this is essential for maintaining food safety at home.
